Romania holds the largest brown-bear population in Europe — roughly 6,000 animals in the Carpathian forests. We work with two ethical hides in the Brașov mountains, sat at dusk or dawn with a forester. No feeding stations, no bait, no floodlights: you wait quietly and the forest comes to you.
How the sit works
You are driven to the forest in the late afternoon, walk a short path to a timber hide, and settle in with a forester and a biologist. Over three to four still hours you watch a natural clearing — bears, often, but also deer, wild boar and, if you are lucky, a wolf or lynx crossing at the edge of the light.
Ethical, not a zoo
We only use hides that observe, never bait. That means a real chance rather than a guarantee — which is the honest version of wildlife. Sightings are very common in season, but the forest decides. Our foresters have spent their lives here and read it well.
When and who
April to October, best in late spring and early autumn. The sit is quiet, cool and requires patience — children under 10 are not admitted, and warm dark clothing and silence are essential. We pair the evening with a nearby stay so you are not driving back late.

- No responsible operator can guarantee wild animals. In season, brown-bear sightings from these hides are very common — but it is nature, not a show.

- Yes. You are inside a solid timber hide with an experienced forester throughout. You never approach the animals.
