Râșnov Fortress

A peasants' citadel above a Saxon town — quieter than Bran, with a wider view.

About

Built in the 13th century by Teutonic knights and finished by Saxon villagers, Râșnov is a "peasants' citadel" — a refuge in time of siege, complete with a deep well dug by Turkish prisoners over seventeen years. From the upper walls, the entire Burzenland plain spreads out: Brașov in one direction, the Piatra Craiului ridge in the other.
