Voroneț Monastery
The "Sistine Chapel of the East" — exterior frescos painted in a blue that has never been reproduced.
About
Built by Stephen the Great in 1488, Voroneț is the most famous of Bucovina’s painted monasteries. Its west wall is a Last Judgement covering the entire facade, painted in 1547 in a specific lapis-blue pigment that has resisted 500 winters and never been matched in modern labs. Visit early or late — coach groups arrive between 11 and 14. Combine with Sucevița and Moldovița on a single loop day.
