Sighișoara Citadel

The only inhabited medieval citadel in Europe — the painted houses, the clock tower, the cobbles.

About

Sighișoara — Schäßburg to its Saxon founders, Segesvár to the Hungarians — is a working medieval town where families still live inside the 14th-century walls. The Clock Tower (Turnul cu Ceas) at the top has a small museum and the best wide view in the region. Vlad Dracul (the father of "Vlad the Impaler") was born in the yellow house at Strada Cositorarilor 5. The town is best at dusk when the day-trippers have left.
