Casa Cireșelor
A shepherd’s house in Sibiel, deep in the Mărginimea — for the trip where someone in the group wants to learn to make cheese.
Top Gear called it the best driving road in the world — 90 km of hairpins over the Făgăraș range.
Ceaușescu had the Transfăgărășan built in the early 1970s as a military escape route in case of Soviet invasion. It climbs to 2,042m at Bâlea Lake, with tunnels, hairpins, and the long Bâlea waterfall on the south side. The road opens in late June and closes again in late October or early November — the high section above the treeline is the showpiece. Allow a full day; not a road to rush.
Closed November–June above 1,200m. Check official status before driving.
